Feds take down Education website for children with disabilities
Are there two sides, and two sides only, to the debate over how to educate American kids?
Betsy DeVos was confirmed as the next Secretary of Education for the United States on February 7.
Some even pointed out the likeness of the typo to newly-appointed education secretary Betsy DeVos, who has been criticised for being “so unqualified” and for having “disdain” for public education.
Since Trump announced his intent to nominate her in November, the appointment garnered nationwide controversy, which hasn’t settled down since DeVos began her duties.
DeVos’ confirmation only went through due to a tie-breaking vote in the Senate by Vice President Mike Pence.
Both future educators explained their concerns for the way DeVos may change the educational system the United States now has in place.
That’s probably true. Old rules of civility in debate seem to exist in a notebook no one can find these days.
“Betsy has a unique insight on the education landscape in MI, more than any other state in the nation”, DiSessa said, adding that the state department expects to agree with her on numerous goals they are setting. Where does that leave us?
Therefore, we must demand an equal distribution of funds in our public school system. “They should not prevent her from doing her job that way”.
Keam shares similar concerns regarding Virginia public schools.
Both senators opposed DeVos’ nomination over the Republican mega-donor’s ties to charter schools and voucher programs, which could potentially gut public school programs.
Incredibly, to the teachers unions, wanting parents to have their pick of traditional public schools, public charter schools and private schools constitutes an opposition to public schools and diversity. During the campaign, he said he wanted to severely cut back or eliminate the Department of Education, but he hasn’t said this since becoming president. Would that clamor be led, as in fact the case is, by parents?
Then there’s that bit about Democrats not wanting to reform tenure laws. Choice is “un-American”: When did that happen? “Developing policies to ensure quality education and standards are a challenge”. Friday morning, on just her third day on the job, she was met by vocal protesters as she sought to visit a middle school in southwest Washington, D.C. Most of the protesters were parents or teachers, and some were carrying signs.
Upon DeVos’ approval, things didn’t get much better. That’s an approach that holds promise, and Kaine should be prepared to work with her, rather than resorting to nasty, personal insults. This person is Betsy DeVos.
