‘Rowdy’ Roddy Piper dead at age 61

He originated the movie’s most famous line, in which he warns his adversaries: “I have come here to chew bubble gum and kick ass”. He also hosted a very popular podcast of the same name. Although he hadn’t wrestled since, in recent years Piper appeared in several special shows about the sport, including with other organizations. It was resurrected as a podcast in 2014.
The deceased wrestler died in his sleep due to cardiac arrest at his home in Hollywood, Calif. Roddy was only 61 when he passed away.
The death is especially shocking considering we just spoke to him on Friday and asked his opinion about the Hulk Hogan scandal.
Hogan and Piper had famously battled at Wrestlemania I in 1985.
World Wrestling Entertainment said Piper died on Friday, although it revealed no more details. A family source said he was “cancer-free” at the time of his death.
Toombs’ humbly began his wrestling career as a teenager in Canada before gaining legions of fans and transcending the squared circle over almost five decades of performances. He and Hulk Hogan met in landmark matchups including MTV’s “The War to Settle the Score” and the first WrestleMania, where Piper and “Mr. Wonderful” Paul Orndorff took on Hogan and Mr. T.
Piper rose to the level of Intercontinental Champion in 1992, briefly served as the interim president of the WWE in 1996 and was inducted into its Hall of Fame in 2005.
