Square knew Tomb Raider Xbox exclusivity would “disappoint fans”
PlayStation 4 owners are not pleased with the decision, and Square Enix West CEO Phil Rogers wants those fans to know that the decision for timed-exclusivity for Microsoft “wasn’t an easy” one. IGN reported that Mr. Rogers was quoted on the heavy thinking that the company had to undergo in order to come up with this conclusion.
“I hope fans know that it wasn’t an easy decision, “. The decision at a studio level, we took very, very seriously. Rogers, though, has been awed by what Microsoft brings to the game, and that might have pushed Square Enix to take the deal. It’s great to have Tomb Raider as part of our line-up, but investing in first party, you’ll see more of that at gamescom next week, is really core to our strategy.
Mr. Rogers further elaborated, “Having been working with us on previous games in a lesser sense, they’ve been supportive”.
Roughly four months shy before Lara Croft and the “Rise of the Tomb Raider” game hits Xbox One and Xbox 360 consoles, game director Brian Horton made fans more thrilled to get the game confirming that the game will be more epic and will provide a seamless experience without the burden of loading screens. Rise of the Tomb Raider, on the other hand will only be available on Xbox platforms for 2015, with a PC release to follow in early 2016, and the PlayStation 4 version during holiday 2016. People should feel that about Microsoft. “We’re going to take Tomb Raider up to the next level”, added Rogers.
This means that gamers will have a lot more things to do and areas to explore. “With Microsoft’s belief, passion and sort of muscle to help us deliver, we really think this is going to be an awesome game that people will enjoy for years and years to come”.
Horton also stated that Rise of the Tomb Raider will appeal to all type of fans. Dismayed and perhaps uninterested, will the fans still tolerate the version of the saga which may perhaps be the best one so far?
