Kim Jong-nam killed by ‘weapon of mass destruction’
Kim was killed February 13 at the airport in Malaysia’s capital, Kuala Lumpur.
The chemical discovery “will add to the increasing evidence suggesting that Kim Jong-un’s regime in North Korea was behind the brazen and public attack… an apparent move by the young North Korean leader to get rid of potential rival, the Washington Post reports”.
The police had also earlier dismissed claims that Siti believed the attack was for a prank, saying that the women had moved towards the bathroom right after the poison attack because they were aware the liquid was toxic and that they needed to wash their hands.
In its first comments on the airport assassination of Mr Kim Jong Nam, KCNA said Malaysia bore responsibility for the death and accused it of conspiring with South Korea.
Kim, who was often accompanied by two female bodyguards, was a “very humble, very nice guy” who was soft-spoken and well-mannered, Hwang said.
Two women – one Vietnamese and the other Indonesian – are in custody along with a North Korean man.
A friendship between Malaysia and North Korea, going back to the 1970s, has soured in the wake of Kim Jong-nam’s murder. Seven North Koreans are being sought, including a diplomat.
The use of a VX agent strongly indicates North Korea is behind the attack, and that Pyongyang’s military has large-scale facilities to manufacture VX and other deadly chemicals, according to Japanese scientists who spoke to the Mainichi.
Malaysian police have said Huong heped wipe a liquid, containing a toxic substance, now believed to be VX Nerve Agent – a chemical weapon – on Kim Jong-nam’s face.
Police are investigating whether it was brought into Malaysia or made there before allegedly being used by North Korean assassins. A senior police official told the Journal that at least one of the women was actually wearing gloves.
He has no idea where the VX nerve chemical used, came from. He died on the way to the hospital.
The U.S. and Russian Federation are the only countries who openly admit to being in possession of the agent, but many other countries, including Syria, are believed to have stores of the gas. Then, in anywhere from a few seconds to a few hours, it can cause a range of symptoms, from blurred vision to a headache.
People may not even know they have been exposed to VX as it is tasteless and odourless.
It can be administered through the skin, and there is an antidote that can be administered by injection.
It took Malaysian police 11 days to put a name to the substance the two women smeared onto Kim’s face as he waited at a check-in point in the airport terminal.
