Spurs boss hails Harry Kane – ‘One of the best strikers in Europe’
Tottenham Hotspur returned to winning ways on Sunday after their Europa League ouster by defeating Stoke City 4-0 in an English Premier League clash.
Harry Kane scored a hat-trick as Tottenham Hotspur thrashed Stoke City 4-0 at White Hart Lane this afternoon to go second in the Premier League table.
“We want to keep that going”. Tottenham will be playing at home at White Hart Lane.
The Denmark global has played in 35 appearances this season across all competitions, scoring eight goals and supplying 14 assists.
Spurs spirits were dampened when they lost Toby Alderweireld to a knock shortly after half-time, but Kane nearly gave the home fans another moment to cheer, with only a fine right-hand save from Grant denying him a fourth goal. If Stoke succeed in scoring a goal, I think the Welshman will play an important role in creating the goal, if he is not the person tapping it in to the net. He is very professional, a top man.
“It is not new for me”. One such save was from Kane after 70 minutes, as the striker looked to finish in the same way of his first goal in drilling one across goal from the corner of the box, but this time Grant got a strong hand and tipped it away. But for a team that should be targeting a mid-table spot this season (as always), such a run seems pretty good and not worrying at all.
Mauricio Pochettino told reporters during his press conference yesterday that Spurs “can’t feel sorry for themselves” after getting eliminated from the Europa League this past Thursday, so they made a decision to go out today and show that they still have a lot left to play for this season.
“Dele is very mature and a great boy”. He showed today a big maturity. I am happy for him because he was sad and disappointed. I will always protect [him].
“It was very disappointing but you have to admit that we are a long way off being as good as the top six in this league”.
“When something like that happens you want to get out there and make sure you put it right”.
Key defenders Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen were both substituted in the second half, seemingly due to muscular problems. “And being clever”, said Pochettino.
“I hope in a few days they can start again to work with the group, we will play next Sunday and they will have time enough to recover”.
They face Stoke in third place but just two points separates them from Manchester United in sixth.
“Spurs were outplayed in their last league game, at Liverpool, because they were not allowed enough of the ball”.
Despite the final score, Hugo Lloris produced one of the game’s most crucial moments in the 23rd to preserve his side’s lead.
“But my question is maybe we are not ready”.
