Manny Pacquiao and Amir Khan announce April 23 ‘super fight’
The options were Amir Khan, Terrence Crawford, Kell Brook and Jeff Horn. There have been fights in Las Vegas on a Sunday – as happened between Joe Bugner and heavyweight contender Ron Lyle at Caesars in 1977 – but it is rare. He has won his two most recent bouts following his May 2015 loss to Floyd Mayweather Jr., in which he dropped the WBO welterweight title. The said opponent is a 30-year-old former light-welterweight champion. He said in his faraway youth he could envisage retiring at 27. A few years ago, they both had the same trainer. “But that doesn’t mean we’re not going to cooperate with Manny to see whether or not this is real”.
Roach has characterized the sparring as “tit-for-tat”, but in 2014 said it’d be “no big fight”, adding that “Pacquiao knocked him out in the gym” and had dropped him “at least 4 times”. “Further announcements coming soon”, Pacquiao, 38, said on his official Twitter feed. “One is United Kingdom, one is Dubai and one is in the USA”.
“There’s a couple of locations we’re looking at”.
“The fight is going to be for the WBO title and it’s a fight I know I can win”.
Manny Pacquiao has been flirting with retirement for years, presumably to focus on his burgeoning political career in the Philippines.
Khan also took to his Twitter account to announce the fight. Khan deserves credit for having a strong following in England and the probability is that the fight can be monetized very well on the British Isles.
Khan and Pacquiao know each other very well. While Khan isn’t one of the elite fighters at 147 pounds, the contrasting style makes the fight compelling.
Keep up to date with DUNK360 for the latest on Pacquiao/Khan. However, it seems that that fight has been scrubbed for a more interesting matchup against Khan.
The Welterweight fight will be happening on 23rd April.
The Times reported exclusively this week that Khan and Pacquiao had agreed terms for a bout this spring, but the venue for their meeting remains unconfirmed.
