Sony quietly came out with the most surprising smartphone of MWC 2017
Through its Xperia™ smartphone and tablet portfolio, as well as innovative smartwear products, Sony Mobile Communications delivers the best of Sony technology, premium content and services, and easy connectivity to Sony’s world of networked entertainment experiences.
What do you think of the Xperia XZ Premium and Xperia XZs?
The smartphone retains the Sony Xperia design elements and has a very similar flat glass back, rounded edges and splash-resistant coating.
The Sony Xperia XZs featured a fingerprint sensor for security purposes and packed with a 2900mAh non-removable battery with Qnovo’s Adaptive Charging Technology.
Otherwise, the smartphone looks stylish with its metal antennas at the top and bottom and Gorilla Glass 5 protection on both the front and rear covers.
Sony has also unveiled a projector called Xperia Touch, which can turn a plain surface into a 23-inch flatscreen – like a table – and it’s completely responsive to physical touch. It is powered by Snapdragon 820 processor, which is slightly disappointing as XZ Premium comes with SD 835. LG’s latest smartphone, the G6, has an HDR display.
The camera is another big feature that Sony Mobile has integrated into the smartphone. This can capture 4K video at 30fps.
Sony needs to rethink their position on omitting a fingerprint sensor, particularly since mobile purchases and Android Pay are starting to take off. If you are looking to grab yourself any of these two phones, the latter will set you back $699, same as the launch price of the Xperia XZ. This can be expanded using a micro SD card up to 256GB. The phone is one of the first devices to include the Snapdragon 835, which is Qualcomm’s latest flagship processor. It has 4GB RAM with 64GB Universal Flash Storage, which can be extended up to 265 GB via microSD card. The Sony Xperia XZ Premium is powered by a 3230mAh battery which can power this behemoth for a day on average use.
Pricing and availability is yet to be confirmed for these phones, as you might have guessed considering no working XZ Premium models were available to test. Sony representatives said the devices should be out during the first half of 2017. With the announcement of the Xperia XZ Premium and XZs, Sony once again has a couple of enticing phones.
Not so long ago, the smartphone market was nearly exclusively controlled by Apple and Samsung, with their top-tier devices battling it out at the top of the sales charts. Among all those smartphones, one of them stands out the most.
The real kicker comes in the camera department. First, the ability to capture super slow motion videos at 960fps (most are around 240fps), and second to capture images before you have even pressed the button. Just bear in mind that you’ll be paying quite a lot for what is essentially a mid-range phone.
