Polar Plunge comes to Lake Tulloch –> Polar Plunge comes to Lake Tulloch
Around 500 people attended Purdue’s Polar Plunge this weekend, an event that raises money and awareness for Special Olympics Indiana.
On March 4, registration begins at 9 a.m. and teams will begin plunging at 11 a.m.
“It was really cold, but it was awesome, we came here to see what it’s like and plunge”, Cleland said of his sub-zero dip.
“You know, it’s a great cause, Special Olympics”.
More than 460 groups registered for the event, which had raised almost $85,000 by Saturday morning, according to Lynne Buckley Noble, board member for Special Olympics Indiana. She attended the figure skating events last week at the Special Olympics. They were recognized for most money raised by a group, bringing in about $25,000 total. In all, participants were able to raise more than $70,000 for the upcoming games.
“I think the worst part was standing and waiting to go in – the anticipation”, said Rebecca Jacobs of Fox Lake.
Myron was one of many who donned a special “look” for the occasion – he dyed his hair and eyebrows blue.
Brandy Unruh, a criminal justice instructor at Garden City Community College, said before the plunge that she wasn’t scared to submerge herself in the frigid crocodile-green water.
Clark’s own Daniel and Ryan Collins, along with dad Leo of Rahway, took the race into the Atlantic’s 40 degree waters to benefit Special Olympics New Jersey.
“It feels great, just knowing that it’s for a good objective you know, it’s always fun”, Falaniko said.
