Oscars 2017: Casey Affleck, Emma Stone win Best Actor and Actress award
“La La Land” directed by Damien Chazelle with Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone was nominated in total for 14 Oscars, including Best Director and Original Screenplay.
After it was revealed that an envelope mix-up caused Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway to incorrectly announce La La Land as the victor of Best Picture instead of Moonlight, the film’s Best Supporting Actor victor Ali, reflected on the surreal moment backstage.
Ryan Gosling has warned Jimmy Kimmel not to “f**k up” the Academy Awards.
Emma is up for Best Actress, co-star Ryan Gosling will be hoping to take home the statuette for Best Actor, and the film is included in the Best Motion Picture category, plus another 11 groups.
I know, we’re nearly done with all the Oscars stuff so hang in there.
By now you’re probably aware that the Oscars happened last night. “I’m so excited for ‘Moonlight.’ It was an unbelievable thing to hear ‘La La Land” [named best picture] and of course we wanted to win. I’m afraid they read the wrong thing.
Despite the epic mishap, Emma was quick to congratulate Moonlight for their somewhat overshadowed feat. “I’d say, “You’re pissing on the graves of all my friends with that attitude”. Most of the audience, let alone the actors onstage, could barely believe what was unfolding-including La La Land stars Gosling and Emma Stone.
Talk about a big finale – this blunder was more dramatic than any of the nominated films. Moonlight, which centers on an oppressed gay black man living in Miami is also the first film centering on black characters to win Best Picture that isn’t explicitly about racism and/or slavery. Pretty soon I’ll be playing great-grandfather roles.
Stone said it was one of the “craziest moments ever”, but that she was excited for “Moonlight”.
Raising her Oscar statuette as she talked about her career as an actress, she added: “This guy is a really handsome symbol to continue on that journey”.
