Trump says Oscars focused hard on politics before ‘sad’ end
Some few days ago, Jimmy Kimmel who is the host of this year Oscar’s event was seen defacing Matt Damon’s seat card during rehearsals.
“When I first met Matt, I was the fat one”, Kimmel recalled, as he urged the country to unite despite a heated political climate.
“The policies of this administration are abhorrent and will not last”, the Manchester by the Sea actor told the audience, adding how Trump’s recent orders have been “un-American”.
And when Vicki shouted out Denzel Washington as her favorite actor and Kimmel asked if the actor would be willing to be the best man at their upcoming wedding, the Best Actor nominee did them one better by standing up to “marry” them right there in the middle of the Oscars.
Two hours into the Oscars telecast and President Trump hadn’t tweeted about the show. The well-reviewed host Jimmy Kimmel-who opened the show with “Remember previous year when it seemed like the Oscars were racist?” and blamed Donald Trump for the “225 countries that now hate us”- delivered on that promise, as did presenters and winners. While him hosting probably convinced some of his late-night fans to watch, he wouldn’t bring in many new viewers since they already knew what to expect from him. “Join me in giving Meryl Streep a totally undeserved round of applause”, the hilarious host said.
In the middle of Jimmy’s opening monologue for the 89th Oscars he put the spotlight on Meryl by referencing Trump’s “over-rated” tweet about her. following her scathing speech about him in January. The Oscars will be handed out on February 26, at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, California.
“La La Land”, which was nominated for 14 Oscars, won the awards for best actress (Emma Stone), cinematography, score, song (“City of Stars”), and production design. “For the next four years we will not leave you alone, we will not forget you”. And I say, exhume those bodies.
As expected, “La La Land” took home Best Picture. until it didn’t.
Davis won Best Supporting Actress for her role in “Fences” – which earned her a Tony when she played the role on stage in 2010 – and was given all the time in the world to give a long-awaited and very emotional speech.
“Arrival” and “Moonlight”, each with eight nominations, also enter the night’s ceremony on strong footing.
Taraji P. Henson, Janelle Monae and Octavia Spencer, the stars of “Hidden Figures“, didn’t have to go quite that far.
Negga was followed by the Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda and his mother who both wore the pin. “I’m going to do everything I can to make sure that he doesn’t win”.
