Van plows into parade crowd injuring students
“Everybody in the south wants crawfish during Mardi Gras”, said local crawfish farmer Kevin Touchet, “Right now, they’re just everywhere”.
Brown says there is no indication the crash was anything other than what he calls a “horrific accident”.
A city spokesperson said the incident on Tuesday (28 February) left three of the injured teenagers in critical condition. He may face more charges, police said.
Officers used a breathalyzer to determine his blood-alcohol level, New Orleans Police Public Information Officer Ambria Washington said.
The 73-year-old driver is being interviewed by police, who do not believe the act was intentional.
During the celebration this past weekend, a drunk driver injured at least 28 revelers when he plowed his auto into a crowd along a parade route Saturday night.
The band members who were struck are members of the Gulf Shores High School Band.
It was being driven by an elderly man, witnesses said. Video of the scene shows several ambulances with patients laying on the ground.
Eyewitnesses told local media they heard screams and saw a van run into the Gulf Shores High School marching band.
