Xiaomi Mi 5C Smartphone With New Surge S1 Processor Announced
The company did not say if it would supply its chipsets to other mobile phone vendors.
The Surge S1 takes advantage of the big.LITTLE design, which is made for intelligent forecast and real-time switching between tasks.
The company embarked on developing the chipset two and a half years ago.
The Mi 5C is powered by Surge S1 that is built with a 28nm manufacturing process. Surge S1 is the result and came out of the company’s Pinecone research and development subsidiary after 28 months.
Xiaomi’s first in-house chipset is now official. The Surge S1 will hit the production on a large scale.
How Powerful Is The Surge S1 Chip? The processor comprises 8 Cortex-A53 processing cores, four of which are tuned at 2.2GHz, and the remaining at 1.4GHz. It has an integrated Mali T-860 MP4 GPU, which will provide enhanced graphics performance in gaming and there’s a support for 4K videos as well. However, is has been noted that with these specifications, it is not close enough to match the performance of other high-performance chips. The SoC is a mid-range processor and roughly comparable to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 625 processor. The first phone to run on this SoC is the Xiaomi Mi 5c. Otherwise, USB Type C, a front-mounted fingerprint scanner and IR blaster round out the package.
The Xiaomi Mi 5c has metal body and comes in Rose Gold, Gold and Black colors and is priced at 1499 RMB ( Rs. 15,000 approx.) and will start selling in China from 3rd March. Well, like the Mi 5, it has a 5.15-inch display with a 2,560 x 1,600 resolution, which means you’ll get more than enough pixels to ensure a sharp image on a phone of this size. It also has 99.4 percent NTSC gamut and 550 nit brightness. As mentioned earlier, at the heart of the device is the in-house Surge S1 chipset teamed with 3GB of RAM and 64GB of onboard storage. The secondary camera on the phone is an 8-megapixel sensor. It is powered by a 2860 mAh battery with support for fast charging.
The Mi 5c is the successor to the Mi 4c, which is one of my favorite affordable Android smartphones, and it comes at an affordable price (about $220) and with some pretty attractive specs.
