Minnesota Vikings decline option on all-time leading rusher Adrian Peterson
Adrian Peterson playing in a different uniform just became more likely. Minnesota has opted not to exercise the option on the final year of his contract, effectively saving a $18 million cap hit.
The Vikings had until March 8 to decide whether or not to pick up Peterson’s $18 million option for next season.
However, with LeGarrette Blount coming up as a free agent this offseason, Peterson is at least worth a look for the Patriots, and Bill Belichick is as good as anyone when it comes to revitalizing the careers of other teams’ cast-offs.
Peterson listed the Giants, Buccaneers, and Texans as potential landing spots that could intrigue him last month, as he is hoping to join a Super Bowl contender in 2017.
Jefferey will without question be the best player on this list, however he is a locker room nightmare and did receive a four game suspension previous year for PED use. While Peterson has dealt with injuries over the last few seasons it’s worth noting that he has come back stronger the following year. But what also sticks out is that in his one full season over the past three years in 2015, Peterson had more rushing touchdowns than Jennings had over the past three seasons combined.
Minnesota, however, will likely have a lot of competition for Peterson’s services. For one thing, the running back’s preferred rushing style and the way New York Giants head coach Ben McAdoo runs his offense don’t exactly line up.
Any NFL team that needs a running back will have other veteran options.
Peterson has played in just 20 games over the last three seasons, including three this past season.
TALK IS CHEAP: Would Adrian Peterson be a fit with Giants?
CBS Sports is reporting that there are some locations where Adrian Peterson may end up in free agency, and as rumored for years, the Cowboys are one of them.
It has not even been a full day yet since Peterson’s release and rumors are already beginning to fly in.
Should Peterson do what most players do and maximize his earnings and guaranteed money, don’t expect the Raiders to be involved in the bidding. Peterson’s vision is far superior to Murray’s, which would lead to many more breakout runs than Murray provided Oakland this season.
