Adrian Peterson’s dad won’t rule out son signing with Packers
He is an unrestricted free agent.
Of course Peterson would have to take a hefty discount to join the Raiders, but at 31-years old (Peterson will be 32-years old March 21) it could also be true that Peterson is ready for a chance at a Super Bowl. At times it looked like he’d spend his entire career in purple and gold, but those times could be over.
We’ll see where Peterson ends up next season and I wouldn’t rule out Minnesota, either. Maybe they could convince AP to play on a team-friendly deal for the sake of winning, but there are likely teams better suited for that – perhaps New England who lost LeGarrette Blount to free agency.
Unfortunately, Peterson has three strikes against him. That was likely a reference to the fact that Big Blue had just cut starting running back Rashad Jennings.
He missed 15 games in 2014 while on the commissioner’s exempt list after a child abuse allegation.
The Vikings also haven’t shut the door on bringing him back, though it won’t be at the $18 million asking price.
After being reinstated to the NFL for the 2015 season, Peterson rushed for a league-best 1,485 yards. That’s not a lot more for Jennings, considering he played in 20 more games than Peterson.
Peterson’s Pro Football Focus grade was really bad as well.
While this year’s draft class is stocked at the running back position reports are that Minnesota has their eyes set on a former Raider.
The short answer is no, and not just because of his off-field issues. Both players have over 1,300 career carries and a number of games under their belts.
Nelson Peterson said his son, who was working out Tuesday at his home in the Houston area, still wants to return to Minnesota, the team that drafted him in 2007 out of Oklahoma. It is a business at the end of the day, so with that, things could end up differently. Speaking with Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press, Peterson’s father even mentioned the Vikings’ chief rival as a possible destination.
