Eric Berry, Chiefs finalizing six-year, $78 million deal
It is possible that the Chiefs and Charles agreed to release Charles, in order to re-sign for less money, in order to help the team. Charles had previously torn his ACL in 2011. Last season, the Panthers best back was QB Cam Newton, which coach Ron Rivera says is not fine. Spiller – and one non-traditional hybrid player – Tyreek Hill. Charles rushed for 233 yards in that 2012 game against the Saints and 226 later that season against the Indianapolis Colts. That sounds nice, but he only had one game with over 100 rush yards and four games with over 100 total yards. This isn’t so bad when you consider Poe has been mostly excellent, but he is still expendable for the Chiefs because he couldn’t separate himself from second-round rookie Chris Jones. I don’t think any team wants to pay a safety that much for one year.
But Hill will pitch in. Brilliant, in fact. He didn’t just outrun his peers by gaining 5.45 yards per carry over the course of his nine seasons with the Chiefs.
Numbers have to define great running backs.
West was just as inconsistent as Ware, just without as many opportunities. Those are usually good for about two years.
Will the Chiefs rescind the tag like the Panthers did a year ago?
The Chiefs are strapped with salary cap restraints and will be unlikely to keep two of their best defensive players.
And it gives them some room to make some offensive moves.
General manager John Dorsey said in a statement the decision to release Charles was hard but necessary. Similarly, they’re a lot more likely to look at players like Pierre Garcon than Alshon Jeffery, who’s now the best wide receiver left. But that doesn’t mean he won’t draw interest. It also wouldn’t make sense for the Eagles to bring in Peterson, as he is expected to earn more than $6 million annually, which is a decent chunk of the team’s cap space this offseason.
Charles hopes to sign somewhere where he can compete for a starting job. Could he catch 50 passes for 600 receiving yards and a handful of touchdowns? Charles would also have a nice time in NY because of the committee behind him, allowing him to stay healthier, and who doesn’t want to live the NY lifestyle.
Charles said he was happy he had that surgery, and another one afterward on his other knee that cleaned up more damage. If he can’t stay healthy, he’ll be a waste on a Fantasy roster. And signing Charles hardly precludes the Eagles from selecting a potential long-term solution at running back in the 2017 NFL Draft. In a report by NBC Sports’ Pro Football Talk earlier this February, it was mentioned that team general manager John Dorsey said they had “positive talks” with Berry.
