Adrian Peterson’s 2017 option not taken up by Minnesota Vikings
Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones plans to pursue running back Adrian Peterson in free agency, NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport reported Tuesday, citing a source. Peterson only played in three games a year ago, and couldn’t even create 2 yards per carry.
Peterson had surgery to fix a right lateral meniscus tear September 22 and returned in December, finishing the season with 37 rushes for 72 yards and no touchdowns.
Peterson seems to have his eyes on several teams.
“(Peterson) was not surprised because no one thought he would be playing for $18 million”, Peterson’s father, Nelson Peterson, said in a phone interview. At some point he was going to hit the running back wall.
Peterson’s 11,747 rushing yards rank 16th in National Football League history and first in Vikings history (by a margin of nearly 5,000 yards). Most recently during the 2015 offseason, Peterson was a circled as a potential replacement in the backfield for a departed DeMarco Murray. Both players may wind up in the Hall of Fame one day. They’re both in the tail-end of their career. He has pulled no punches in stating how much he wants to win a Super Bowl. And Bill Belichick might make an offer.
If Peterson presents as a realistic option and the team is satisfied with his medical status, fans can trust McKenzie to make the right decision.
In other words: the Giants now have a legitimate opportunity to sign Peterson in free agency.
During this year’s playoffs, Peterson appeared on ESPN’s “First Take.” “I see myself finishing off in purple”.
But as with most things in this game, that decision will come to money in the end.
“Peterson added: “[If not], there’s a couple teams out there that I’ve thought about.
It doesn’t look good for the Houston Texans. He also said about the defending champions, “If it’s New England, then New England”.
