Trump condemns Kansas shooting; lifts Iraq from travel ban
The comments are the most direct the White House has been on the shooting, which killed Srinivas Kuchibhotla, a 32-year old employee at Global Positioning System company Garmin, and left Alok Madasani, 32, and Ian Grillot, 24, in the hospital.
A small memorial for Srinivas Kuchibhotla is displayed outside Austins Bar and Grill in Olathe, Kan., on February 24, 2017.
Ian Grillot, a 24-year-old American, who tried to save the Indians, was hit by a bullet that pierced his hand and then lodged in his chest.
In the days following the attack, many Indian American organizations and politicians had come out condemning the attack and urging authorities to investigate the incident as a hate crime. “The FBI continues to work jointly with the Olathe Police Department while investigating the Kansas incident”, the statement added. Witnesses said that he first shouted “get out of my country” at the men before opening fire at them. On the streets of central Delhi, people lashed out at how they are perceived in the United States.
However, White House press secretary Sean Spicer said “early reports out of Kansas are… disturbing”.
In the incident outside Kansas City, an Indian immigrant was shot by a white suspect who had been badgering him about his immigration status.
Trump is yet to comment on the shooting that took place in a bar in Kansas City last week. The 2 Indian men were 32 years olds who had come to United States for studying and were engineers at Global Positioning System maker- Garmin.
“We are going to move away from lower-skilled immigration and adopt a merit-based system”.
Trump’s 60-minute address went down well and was widely seen as consolidating his young presidency against its many adversaries.
“We are also taking strong measures to protect our nation from radical ISIS terrorism”.
“As promised, I directed the Department of Defense to develop a plan to demolish and destroy ISIS – a network of lawless savages that have slaughtered Muslims and Christians, and men, women, and children of all faiths and beliefs”, Trump said.
