Donald Trump set to address Congress for first time as President
President Donald Trump will reportedly call for the return of manned US missions to space during his first State of the Union Address to the nation Tuesday night.
Tellingly, Trump in a television interview before the speech graded himself an A for his actions as President so far but a C or C minus for his messaging.
As a result, the speech to Congress was billed by White House officials as a chance to reboot the administration.
“That’s who he is”, he said.
Trump said Republicans and Democrats must work together to ensure coverage for Americans with pre-existing conditions, expand coverage through tax credits and “Health Savings Accounts”, give states greater control over Medicaid, implement legal reforms to protect patients and doctors from costs that drive up insurance, and allow individuals to purchase health insurance across state lines.
“I thought it was a nice touch – a delicate touch of class”, New York Rep. Adriano Espaillat told The Post. Sorry, people want border security and extreme vetting’. Among others, New York Fed President William Dudley said the case for raising rates “has become a lot more compelling” in light of the economy’s current and expected performance. “There’s none of this “no-drama-Obama” stuff”.
Presidents typically get a warm bi-partisan response from Congress when they enter the chamber and give their address. That excited Republicans who have had to suffer through bad week after bad week at the White House. He then began a meeting with Secretary of Defense Bob Gates about four hours before leaving for Capitol Hill.
Many would have been relieved at Mr Trump’s condemnation of the racially motivated Kansas bar shooting and attacks against the Jewish community.
Originally, Trump’s order imposed a 90-day ban on travellers from Syria, Iran, Sudan, Libya, Somalia, Yemen and Iraq.
“This is a president who is serious about tackling our biggest challenges and improving people’s lives”. One of his executive orders temporarily stopped refugees from all countries from entering the USA, indefinitely barred refugees from Syria and temporarily barred any travelers from seven countries, including Iran.
The new immigration order will remove Iraq from the list of countries whose citizens face a temporary U.S. travel ban.
Already, the White House seems to have teased the speech with reports that Trump is open to immigration reform – including a pathway to legal status – despite the rhetoric of his campaign.
Rep. Joe Crowley, who chairs the House Democratic Caucus, invited Sarker Haque, a NY businesswoman and victim of an anti-Muslim hate crime.
“We must create a level playing field for American companies and workers”, he said. “This guy has mastered television”.
