‘La La Land’ producer talks Oscars Best Picture mix-up
With all of the millions of dollars that go into the film industry, certainly both films stood on their own as outstanding works.
Justin Horowitz, the La La Land producer caught up in last night’s Best Picture chaos at the Oscars, has discussed the incident further.
He looked puzzled at the answer, but passed the card to his co-presenter Dunaway who read out La La Land as the victor.
Price Waterhouse Cooper’s Brian Cullinan – who together with colleague Martha Ruiz is in charge of handing out the category envelopes to the presenters – tweeted the pic of best actress Oscar victor Emma Stone right before the best picture was mistakenly presented to La La Land instead of Moonlight.
PwC has apologised after a mix up at Sunday’s Oscars ceremony, for which the accountancy firm counts the votes, saw the wrong film announced as the night’s big victor. “And right after I did, the president (Dave Kaval) retweeted it, so I think it will happen”.
As for the awards: Casey Affleck (Manchester by the Sea) took home the Best Actor prize while Emma Stone (La La Land) won Best Actress.
Harvey addressed the mix-up on his morning radio show after hinting at the error on Twitter: “YOU KNOW I have something to say”.
The highest point of the award rating came in 1998, when 55 million viewers in the United States watched blockbuster Titanic win Best Picture.
Speaking to Good Morning America, Horowitzsaid of the experience: “There was a lot of confusion on stage, and at a certain point it was clear that the wrong envelope had been given”.
However, there are plenty of people poking holes in his story – partly because it’s the internet and partly because there is some compelling evidence.
He looked over the card two times, then a third. “This is Moonlight the best picture”.
Iranian film “The Salesman” won for Best Foreign Film but its director Asghar Farhadi was not present at the ceremony. If Beatty had been given the Best Actress in a Leading Role card to mistakenly read out, how on earth did Emma Stone still have her’s?
Again, we ask: What happened? We each have a full set. Martha [L. Ruiz] carries one of those briefcases, I carry the other. In a profile last week, Ruiz spoke about how meticulous they are when it comes to the results.
