Trump open to legal path for undocumented immigrants
President Donald Trump in his address to the joint session of the Congress asserted that enforcing immigration laws will improve jobs and wages for Americans.
Donald Trump was met with loud groans after he launched a plan to publish a weekly list of crimes by immigrants.
A path to citizenship for those in the country illegally would not be part of Trump’s vision for this deal, with the possible exception of “Dreamers” – those brought into the USA illegally as children.
When the New York Times asked Trump’s deputy press secretary, though, she said that she had not heard his speech.

Trump conceded, “I also understand that’s politics”. However, it’s important to remember that his comments should be viewed with skepticism until any actions backing them up are made. For example, he has yet to follow through on his pledge to investigate alleged voter fraud in the 2016 election.
Previous efforts for an immigration compromise bill that would offer undocumented immigrants a path to citizenship have stalled in Congress.
Any immigration reductions would be a strategic problem for Democrats because they are hoping that the rising tide of immigrant voters will bring them into power.
Exactly what President Trump is contemplating now, isn’t clear, as AP’s Julie Pace reports.

In a bid to make an emotional plea and exaggerate the need for his disturbingly authoritarian move, the president then turned the spotlight on the victims.
The Bureau of Census and the Congressional Research Service set the number of undocumented US immigrants in 1990 at 3.5 million.
When asked if a new executive order on border security would be signed later this week, Sanders said, “I would say that’s pretty likely”. “We’ll know when we see what he does”.
“The speech was 95% enforcement and 5% skilled immigration”, said Ali Noorani, executive director of the National Immigration Forum, a group that advocates for immigrants in the U.S. “His father, who is in the audience tonight, has become a good friend of mine”, Trump said. The official went as far as to say there was a possibility of legal status for Dreamers, without leaving the country first.
Wane, who immigrated from Senegal when he was nine years old, said that means undocumented immigrants with deep ties to their communities, who have stayed out of trouble, can still be targeted.
