Craig Shakespeare wouldn’t be fazed by permanent Leicester manager’s job
Italian legend Gianluigi Buffon has leapt to the defence of his countryman Claudio Ranieri, following the Premier League winning manager’s sacking as Leicester City boss.
Leicester ousted Ranieri, who oversaw the club’s incredible championship run last season, on Thursday, with the team mired in a slump and a relegation fight.
It was during this post-match interview with Shreeves where Shakespeare spoke of his Leicester players’ ability to bear the whips and scorns of time, th’ oppressor’s wrong, the proud man’s contumely.
It has been claimed that Hodgson – who has previously managed Blackburn Rovers, Fulham, Liverpool and West Brom in the Premier League – is the preferred choice of owner Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha, who is eager to appoint an experienced top-flight manager. I really couldn’t put my finger on exactly why. “We’ve been working hard with everything we’ve been asked to do but it didn’t happen”.
Under the watchful eyes of caretaker managers Craig Shakespeare and Mike Stowell, the Foxes went ahead in the 28th minute thanks to Vardy, with a classic counter-attacking goal reminiscent of their glorious 2015-16 season.
“It was definitely a case of (being damned if we did and damned if we didn’t) tonight. We just needed to show we’ve got that fighting intensity”.
Afterwards Jamie Vardy said he and his team-mates have been subjected to “unfair stick” in the days since Ranieri’s exit and, while Carragher acknowledges they were in a no-win position, his opinion of them has not changed. “But this is only one result and we must build on that”.
“I can honestly tell you we have tried to win games in the past”.
Danny Drinkwater, whose goal doubled Leicester’s lead near the end of the first half, said a return to fundamentals helped them get back on track.
The win sees Leicester climb into 15th on the ladder two points above the drop zone.
I have said before that, do I think I’m capable of it? Yes.
‘But he will immediately find a new job, I’m pretty sure. Does it faze me? No.
I’ve quite enjoyed the last few games in a way. “It’s a question for the owners”.
Moments later Philippe Coutinho pulled a goal back for Jürgen Klopp’s side but this was never going to be Liverpool’s night.
