Emma Stone and Brie Larson are friendship goals
“I was also holding my ‘best actress in a leading role” card that entire time.
After presenters Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway mistakenly announced La La Land the Best Picture victor, La La producer Jordan Horowitz informed the Moonlight team that there had been a mistake, and that their film was the true victor. So everybody behind my on the stage said ‘No, that’s not acceptable.’ So I just want to thank everybody up here behind me, everybody out there in that room because we didn’t do this, you guys chose us.
The producers of the film, which had been nominated 14 times, were already delivering their acceptance speeches when they were interrupted by an announcement that an error had been made. It’s the sort of inglorious yet exhilarating moment that the Academy Awards aren’t going to be able to shake off, ever. “I think everyone’s in a state of confusion still”, said Stone.
Ali went on to joke that the awards show’s emcee, late-night host Jimmy Kimmel, will “have a lot of fun with the end there moving forward on the show the next couple days”. “So I’m not sure what happened”, Stone said.
He said: “It’s weird to be friendly with someone but to feel like there’s a mano-a-mano thing, which I guess is the nature of the Oscars”. I couldn’t bring myself to tell another story. “And I really wanted to talk to you first”. O.J. Made in America wins Best Documentary at the 2017 Oscars. “So it was nice to explode that myth a little bit on a big stage”.
According to several sources, Beatty was handed an envelope that held the victor for “Actress in a Leading Role”, which was Emma Stone for La La Land.
“Shock. Amazement. I think I lost my breath”. “Never in a million years did I expect her to walk over, pick it up and hand it to me with a smile”.
The Trump roast continued into the show when he wondered if all was OK with the American President since he hadn’t tweeted about it. Kimmel then sent out a tweet to Trump (whom he does not follow on Twitter) that read like a booty text.
The crew rushed to find the correct Moonlight Best Picture envelope, and also asked La La Land producer Jordan Horowitz to open the one he had just been given, which read “Emma Stone, La La Land”. “So around then”, she added.
He told Deadline that he was given the Best Picture envelope by a stagehand. People captioned the pic with imaginings of what sweet nothings Gosling might have telling her, including everything from victor predictions to the fact that they were all Russian spies.
The ceremony’s chaotic scene immediately raced to the top of all-time Oscar moments, far more stunning than the nude man who raced across the stage in 1974 as part of the “streaking” fad.
