When the march reached Ramjas College, ABVP students showed black placards to the rallyists. These celebs were later slammed by Gurmehar’s supporters for using their social media following to mock the girl’s campaign. She received a lot of flak for her previous message “Pakistan did not kill my dad, war killed him”.

She apparently took the decision after she was trolled on social media by former cricketer Virender Sehwag and Randeep Hooda among others.

A BJP MP, Pratap Simha, compared Gurmehar to gangster Dawood Ibrahim.

On the other hand, Ravi Shankar Prasad, the Union Law, and Communications Minister condemned the intimidation stating “Any kind of intimidation of this young girl is wrong and will be dealt with strongly”. Combined, the two men have over 9 million followers.

To which Phogat replied: “Yaha Umr bit gayi desh ko medal dilane mein, aur woh ek pal nahin lagate unpadh batane mein (Spent life-time winning medals for country, and they didn’t take a moment to call us illiterate)”.

However, later Sehwag said his comments were not directed to Gurmehar.
