Amy Schumer responds to open letter from Sarah Clements
She tells Schumer “that we must work to shut down” the “same group of core ideologies” that create problems, including: “disgusting comments and harassment we receive on Twitter and other social media platforms, the obsession of many mass shooters (see the Isla Vista case) with anti-feminism and anti-women ideals, the over-idolization of firearms and fetishization of what they stand for, and the easy access to guns”.
Clements, whose mother Abbey Clements lived through the 2012 massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

Amy Schumer has responded to an open letter about the fatal shooting that occurred during a screening of “Trainwreck” in Lafayette, La.in late July. It’s unclear if the movie itself had anything to do with John Houser’s targeting of the theater that he attacked.
“I know the guilt, the sadness, the hole in your heart you’re feeling”.
“Mayci and Jillian lost their voices – we need to hear yours in their honor”, Clements tweeted back at the star. “I know the sudden feeling that you are not safe anywhere anymore, the numbness that whisks through your limbs and makes you forget that you’re human and that you’re in control”. Well, no one knows yet.
On Saturday August 1, Schumer acknowledged the piece and admitted that she thinks of the victims everyday. Clements had originally misspelled Mayci as “Marci” in her open letter. “Don’t worry I’m on it. You’ll see”, Schumer tweeted in the response. Clements also noted that women in the United States are much more likely to be killed by a person with a gun than are women in other high income countries and that women of color are disproportionately affected by gun violence.
