United still have the chance to win a treble of cup competitions, as they remain in the FA Cup and Europa League, with Mourinho – now a four-time EFL Cup victor – feeling the victory could be crucial in his team’s progression.

“When I scored the first time and we lifted the trophy it was a mad feeling”.
“It has helped the team win another trophy”.
“Sometimes you hate people who have that much arrogance but I love that because he delivers at the same time”.
Was his barb specifically aimed at Arsenal, as some of the press suggested?
The Swede made 26 goals in 38 games this season, including the 2 goals that gave United its EFL Cup.
“This is what I came for, I came to win and I am winning”. The atmosphere after that trophy win wasn’t comparable to Mourinho’s first trophy, with fans and players alike far more content with Mourinho at the helm.
The contract he initially signed is for only one year. “It is special because I was written off”, he said. “We will all believe he is going to stay here for us one more season”. Ibrahimovic got a few mentions (not as many as Sol Campbell, though). “It’s football and congratulations to Manchester United and their players”, he said.
But the 35-year-old has spectacularly silenced those jibes with a brilliant first season with United. Everything I thought would happen.
The Red Devils managed to ride out the onslaught by the south-coast club, before Zlatan Ibrahimovic managed to grab his second goal of the game with a header from close-range, and that was enough to earn his side the win.
“This is what I predicted”.
Asked if leaving United to play for another team would be a downhill move, Ibrahimovic responded: “Me or the club?”
Given their current form and confidence, it would be no surprise to see Mourinho lead them into the top four, but it will certainly be hard for them as they can ill-afford to drop any more points.
