You’re about to get a ‘Netflix for games’ on Xbox
At its core, the program is a streamlined certification process meant to help developers quickly publish Xbox Live-enabled games on both Xbox One and Windows 10.
Specific games include: Halo 5: Guardians, Payday 2, National Basketball Association 2K16, and SoulCalibur II.
Microsoft announced on Tuesday that they had just launched their newest game subscription service for Xbox users.
Xbox Game Pass games will be downloaded directly to the Xbox One and players will be able to launch the games directly from their library. You need to be a member of the Xbox Insider Program (formerly known as Xbox Preview) to start using the program. “Right now, we’re focused on launching Xbox Game Pass on Xbox One consoles and look forward to bringing the service to the broader Xbox community later this spring”.
Geek notes that one of the big differences the Xbox Games Pass has over PlayStation Now is pricing. Creators looking for maximum exposure may be a little disappointed at that, but for Xbox gamers who don’t want to be overwhelmed with the sheer amount of titles that could potentially come through the program, this is good news. Microsoft is expected to release a full list of games later this year. It’ll fill out your library in between new games, but you’ll still buy titles from time to time. In essence, you can grab nearly two additional free titles with your new Xbox One S console.
One new interesting factor has arisen since, namely the announcement of the Xbox One Games Pass.
Developers will also have to pay a one-time fee to be a part of the program that can range from 20 dollars to 100 dollars. When the full service is ready to go live, Xbox Live Gold members will have early access. Until we see that final line-up of digital titles, I’d suggest keeping an open mind.
