Accountant is Oscar Envelope Culprit
Movie stars Faye Dunaway and Warren Beatty accidentally announced Sunday night that the musical La La Land was Best Picture, when it was actually Moonlight.
After Cullinan and Ruiz realized that the wrong victor had been announced, they notified the stage manager, which set in motion a chaotic scene onstage.
How did this debacle happen?
The big Oscar fumble was closely witnessed by social media on Monday, resulting in multiple memes and hilarious tweets, mostly featuring Ryan Gosling’s and Emma Stone’s La La Land.
“Horror”, she told The New Yorker of her reaction in the immediate aftermath of the blunder.
“We deeply regret the mistakes that were made during the presentation of the Best Picture category during last night’s Oscar ceremony”, the Academy said in a statement on Medium.
“I’ve been to the Oscars”, Trump said the next day. And we are left to wonder whether anyone double-checks these things.
The confusion stemmed from the fact that Beatty had the wrong envelope.
In an interesting coincidence, one of the two presenters for the Best Picture Award was also a Northwestern alumnus, Warren Beatty, actor and Academy Award-winning producer, who attended Northwestern in the mid-1950s. “Warren, what did you do?” he ribbed at Beatty.
“The Oscars, out of necessity, had to be revoked in public from the producers of LA LA LAND and handed to the producers of MOONLIGHT”, Georgie wrote.
He pauses, looks at the envelope again. Instead, he just stood there and smiled.
Jordan Horowitz knew something was wrong the moment he saw people in headsets scurrying across the Oscars stage.
The cast and creative team behind La La Land took the stage and began giving their acceptance speeches before the error was called to light. “Eventually, I figured out that Barry Jenkins, the director of Moonlight, is standing behind me and Denzel wanted me to get him to the microphone to make a speech”.
The feud that is said to have been going on for over ten years, Matt Damon and host Jimmy Kimmel.
Both Larson and Stone wept as they held each other close just after the honor. And I say exhume those bodies.
But Horowitz was gracious and self-possessed from the moment the error was discovered.
That suggests that the card Beatty was holding-and the one Dunaway read from-was a duplicate best actress card.
Movie buff John Axford followed the Oscars at a Mesa-area restaurant Sunday night long enough to learn that La La Land had won, as he’d predicted it would.
BEATTY: “I want to tell you what happened”.
