Rubio: Disagreements Over Obamacare Repeal Are A ‘Good Thing!’
Sen. Paul spoke hours after House Speaker Paul Ryan said Republicans “have an obligation” to step in front of the collapsing Obamacare law and “replace it with a better system”.
One Republican lawmaker and a committee aide had said Wednesday that House Republicans would be allowed to review the overhaul plan – but only in a dedicated reading room, and they wouldn’t be given copies to take with them.
The Hill reported: “Paul later said he’s been told the House Republicans” draft of the repeal bill is “take it or leave it.’ ‘I think that’s why it’s top secret, ‘ he said”.
Republican Rep. Mark Meadows, the chairman of the conservative House Freedom Caucus, told CNN on Monday that he can not support a draft of the GOP Obamacare repeal bill unless substantial changes are made. And some Republican senators are on the fence.
There is little in the draft bill that these conservative members find appealing. If House Republicans seriously meant to keep the draft hidden until then, it seems that their plan is already well on its way to failing.
“We didn’t tell the American people we’re going to repeal it, except we’re going to keep the Medicaid expansion”.
It’s not just Congress. The senator continued, “I would say that the Republican establishment position is, is that they’re going to keep parts of Obamacare”.
Virginia Democrat Governor Terry McAuliffe said the president and new HHS Secretary Tom Price haven’t revealed any solid information about their plans.
“I said, ‘Well, I’m looking to read the bill, is this where I read the bill?'” Tonko said. Only after they achieve repeal will there be any prospect of gaining bipartisan support for enacting alternative health reform measures.
Why? “I can give you three of four different reasons”, Meadows said.
In an interview with Fox & Friends on Tuesday, Trump also said he hasn’t had enough time to get the replacement done. He said that it was true Trump said that. “I’ve only been here for – what is this, like my fifth week?”
“It’s amusing because the president lies to us all of the time with no repercussions”, said Oliver, fake-laughing.
Conservative outrage over the GOP plans derived from an early draft of the GOP plans, dated February 10, that leaked on Friday.
It remains unclear whether the administration will present its own ACA replacement plan.
“The Price Plan was considered the conservative gold standard at the time a year ago”, Ryan said of the previous plan proposed by former Rep. Tom Price, now Trump’s Health and Human Services Secretary.
Yet Sen. Rand Paul piled on from the right, saying he needs to know more about his party’s plans.
In his speech to Congress Tuesday night, President Donald Trump supported the tax credit plan that Paul criticized, according to Reuters.
