Oscar gaffe accountants forced to hire bodyguards after blunder
Rebecca Keegan of Vanity Fair was at the Oscars and the Vanity Fair after-party.
Now, the Academy has released an official apology for what was the biggest screw up in Oscars history.
After some hesitation, it was Dunaway who took the envelope and mistakenly announced “La La Land” had won.
Its producers were midway through their well-polished acceptance speeches when hell began to break loose.
Backstage at the press room, we were returning our headsets already when “La La Land” was declared the victor and we were ready to go home to write our story.
There will be an investigation. Similarly, both Moonlight and 12 Years a Slave lost best director to visual spectacles in the dance-heavy La La Land and the outer space marvel Gravity.
“I want to tell you what happened”.
Affleck told the BBC backstage: “Personally, I didn’t say anything because my head was completely blank, [because of] the shock of winning the award and the terror of having a microphone in front of you and all of those faces staring at you”.
Jenkins thanked the cast and producers from “La La Land” for being “gracious” and “generous”.
Natoli contacted another colleague on radio to get Ruiz to check her second envelope containing the Best Picture victor. I opened the envelope and it said, ‘Emma Stone, La La Land.’ That’s why I took such a long look at Faye and [the audience]. “Moonlight” has won best picture”.
I feel a little empathy for poor Warren Beatty. What? I looked out and I saw a member of [accounting firm] Pricewaterhouse coming on the stage, and I was, like, Oh, no, what-what’s happening?
However, Donald Trump posited another theory on the Best Picture mistake in an interview Monday, “I think [the Oscars] were focused so hard on politics that they didn’t get the act together at the end”. Yeezy, I’ma let you be the finishing entry in this article, but Beyonce had one of the best moves to undo your interruption by bringing Taylor back out later in the show so she could have the moment you stole from her.
It’s all anybody was talking about. In a statement obtained by ABC News, the accounting firm also apologized to the casts and crews of “La La Land” and “Moonlight”, as well as Beatty, Dunaway, host Jimmy Kimmel, ABC and the Academy. They only appeared onstage after multiple La La Land creators gave speeches – more than two minutes after La La Land was incorrectly named the victor. It was definitely a memorable, spontaneous show. Well, this surely wasn’t predictable!
Unfortunately, the official statement seems to suggest that on Sunday night, Cullinan accidentally handed Beatty the duplicate version of the card handed out minutes before – Emma Stone’s Best Actress card for La La Land. It was quite sweet.

He was named one of the 100 Most Influential People in the World by Time Magazine in 2012. Many more worldwide people than there had been in the past. “And of course, it was an wonderful thing to hear La La Land”.
“This is ‘Moonlight, ‘ the best picture”, Beatty said. The group was also nominated for last year’s Nobel Peace Prize. That’s really quite remarkable.
He was just a really warm, really amusing guy.
