Jurgen Klopp: Liverpool preparing for the future
The Gunners are likely to struggle with Liverpool’s pressing and this match could get out of hand if Arsenal aren’t careful. We have to start on a positive attitude.
The contrast in the performances of Firmino and Wijnaldum against Spurs compared to what they served up against Leicester was staggering.
But one thing is for sure, Klopp needs to strengthen in defence this summer bringing in a couple of top quality players – preferably some that aren’t injury prone. Everything went against us [in Munich].
Another source of frustration on Monday – and that “here we go again” sinking feeling – was that it was Leicester inflicting the damage.
Sadly, there appears to be more chance of them disproving this narrative by losing to Arsenal this weekend than by beating Burnley the week after.
As you can see, Lovren and Mamadou Sakho are the most used partnership having played together 14 times last season. He now must bring in players that match his passion and attitude and get those who are part of his plans round to his way of thinking and not just when the big boys come to town. “To take the opportunity you have to show your quality”.
Wenger, however, remains confident that the Germany midfielder will be fit to train ahead of Saturday’s game.
There were fears that Koscielny may be facing several weeks on the sidelines but the 31-year-old has made a swift recovery and the Daily Mail claim he was back in full training at London Colney this afternoon.
“I think Monday’s defeat by Leicester has led to Jurgen Klopp’s first real crossroads moment, in so far as he needs to have a bit of a rethink in regards to the make-up of his team”, told Lawrenson to the BBC Sport website.
It’s a different story with Santi Cazorla though, who has missed several months with an ankle problem.
“Next season is the big season for him”, he said.
“Cazorla I am not specialised enough [to know when he’ll be back]”.
In any case, I’m not sure Klopp has the right squad to play that way. It’s very hard to predict.
A season that started so brightly was burnt out by January.
