Why Hugh Jackman never wore the classic Wolverine costume
The first scene itself gives you the realization that Logan is unlike any other X Men movie, and in fact unlike most other superhero films.
Hugh Jackman recently bid adieu to “Wolverine” franchise with his latest film “Logan”.
Hugh Jackman has had an outstanding run playing Wolverine in the X-Men movie franchise, and much of the attention leading up to the release of Logan has focused on how this is his last hurrah. Because in the film, there is of course our hero, always as grumpy and (almost) always as effective and deadly. Wolverine may be getting old, but he’s still not somebody that you want to mess with. Charles is battling dementia and risky seizures that affect not only him, but anyone in range of his powerful mind-control. Wild as she is, but also determined and resourceful, X-23 represents in any case the worthy heiress of Logan and could thus well take its place in the future. However, the nurse turns up dead and Laura turns out to have adamantium claws and a raging temper. But the prize drawn is between Logan and Laura.
The movie tries its best to be mature enough, through the vibe it’s evident that director Mangold has sparred no hair in giving a proper end to both the characters. The newest of 20th Century Fox’s X-Men films, Logan paints a picture of a bleak future without mutants where an aging Wolverine has left his life as part of the X-Men behind. However, we now have the first Latino superhero movie, even if Logan did have to sneak that in the back door. Not only is she fiercely loyal and opinionated, she’s also pretty good in a fight.
Keen more than holds her own with the adults in the cast and brings a surprising amount of nuance to her character. According Hayter, Jackson eyed the lead role of Professor Charles Xavier – the powerful mutant with telepathic abilities that founded the X-Men and the Xavier School for Gifted Youngsters – which eventually went to Star: The Next Generation star, Patrick Stewart.
And then there is Jackman.
When Rajeev asked Hugh “Will it be hard to watch another actor play the character?”, he coolly said “I hope other people play it”. In the film’s opening scene, a drunken Wolverine pleads with a group of vehicle thieves to leave him alone…that’s until he goes into berserker barrage mode and remnants of the old Wolverine bubble to the surface.
“Logan”, starring Hugh Jackman and Stephen Merchant, picks up decades after the events of “X-Men: Apocalypse”. Logan has long since left Wolverine behind and he is merely trying to eke out an existence as best he can.
