Project Scorpio and Xbox One to get Mixed Reality headsets in 2018

As you may recall, UUP promises to dramatically reduce the size of the updates-major or minor-that Microsoft delivers to Windows 10 going forward by using differential download packages. This release will prepare developers for the most forward-thinking platform to be found within Windows 10. Now it’s moving on to the next phase of UUP with Windows Insiders. This is a little different from Microsoft’s Hololens, as that doesn’t require a PC connection and uses on board processing.

Updating Windows 10 in the near future won’t be such a burden on users because download file sizes will be far smaller. “We also heard that unexpected reboots are disruptive if they happen at the wrong time”. The Pick a Time control has options to specify a day and time, per Microsoft’s screenshot.

Apply to join the Preview for Xbox Live Creators Program. Here (at least in the current beta builds) consumers can delay the installation of updates for up to 35 days – something previously limited to Pro editions. It should be clear that frequently released builds have less differences than an update from the Anniversary Update to the Creators Update.

Likely, end users won’t have unlimited delay options with this new approach, though. You may not have heard of this though, that’s because it used to be Windows Holographic and will only be available to carefully selected developers from March onward. It wasn’t specified in his talk, but possibly that option only applies with the Pro or Enterprise editions of Windows 10. Usage in January was also down from the month before. Assuming the same closing pace as XP, Windows 7 will still be on nearly one in four Windows PCs when Microsoft pulls the support plug.

Microsoft also offers a cloud based service to enterprise customers that compliments Windows Defender with features to detect, investigate, and respond to threats across the companies network.
