Danny Garcia thinks supposed weakness will be big strength

Garcia feels that he has the edge over Thurman in many areas.

At an open workout this past week, Thurman mimicked what he called the “no-look hook” that Garcia threw. I also believe that Garcia is the tougher guy and takes a better punch.

Garcia: My jab sets it all up.

Garcia is certainly not a life-taker when it comes to his punching power with either hand, but I think he hits hard enough to gain Thurman’s respect.

Keidel: What part of your style will Thurman find hardest to handle? I’ve had to take the title off the champion [when he defeated veteran Erik Morales to win a 140-pound title in March 2012]. “2017 is going to be a big year for me”, he said. Most observers see Thurman as the better puncher but I think it’s closer than most perceive it to be.

Keidel: Will you win by KO or decision? “I’m able to stalk you down for 12 rounds or move for 12 rounds and my defense is still tight in the later rounds because I have my legs under me and my arms feel strong and I’m still able to think”. No, I’m not quite ready to make that over-statement. As long as the 50-50 match delivers with excitement and no controversial ending, I see it as a win for the sport of boxing. I’ll just listen to my body. I’ve never lost my hunger. Khan also stressed that Thurman has not really boxed with top-caliber fighters so his presumed strength could be overrated after all. This gives everyone a chance to watch and all true fight fans are looking forward to this fight. And considering this big fight is taking place on network television, all of the fighters are going to have the opportunity to make big names for themselves in front of a huge audience. He won big fights, mowed down several favored opponents, and with his tour de force performance against Lucas Matthysse in 2013, proved, without a doubt, that he was the best junior welterweight in the world. The bouts pit top 10 champions against top 10 challengers, and each fight had the star power needed to corral the old viewership and grow a new base of fight fans. Some were tougher but every fight is tough. But guess what? Garcia drilled him in the fourth round.

Garcia: Definitely. Not after this fight. Saturday night, I’ll be the new unified champion of the world.
