Chicago Cubs acquire Dan Haren from Miami Marlins for 2 minor leaguers
Joe Frisaro of MLB.com, reported that the Marlins would get one pitcher and one position player back from the Cubs in the deal.
Pineyro, a 23-year-old righthander, has a 3.69 ERA and 1.25 WHIP in 19 starts. Haren also can earn up to $3 million more in performance bonuses – with the Cubs on the hook for a prorated share of those.
Personally, I like this deal with the Marlins.
Hill and Marlins manager Dan Jennings drew a distinction from some of the team’s past roster purges in that this was not a wholesale sell-off of talent. “They’re trying to retool and getting a lot of A-ball prospects in here and see how those guys can do moving forward”.
Haren, who started Thursday night for the Marlins, is expected to debut for the Cubs in the upcoming series at Pittsburgh, probably Wednesday. He eventually decided to join Miami, though wound up being with the Marlins for basically four months.
– Marlins President of Baseball Operations Michael Hill hopes he never has to trade players away in July again: “When you have to trade pieces away instead of add pieces at this time of year, it’s because something has not gone as mentioned by plan”.
With guys like Wada, Wood, Beeler, and Richard as the top internal options to take the #5 spot in the rotation, I like the addition of Dan Haren, even if it doesn’t move the needle much. Known for his glovework, Soto committed seven errors all season, playing 84 of his games at shortstop and three at second base. He won 13 games as a starter with the Rangers in 2010 and was traded to Baltimore the following season. 265 against him, above his career batting average against (BAA) mark of.253.
Before the deadline handed on Friday, the Cubs pulled the set off on a deal to land a pitcher that they had been on the lookout for the entire summer time. The 29-year-old right-hander is 44-33 with a 4.28 ERA in eight seasons with Texas and the Orioles.
Lake batted. 224 with one home run and five RBIs in 21 games with the Cubs this season.
