Khabib Nurmagomedov-Tony Ferguson Off UFC 209 Saturday Night
UFC 209 weigh-ins are taking place on Friday ahead of Saturday’s event in Las Vegas, and there is some potential major news coming in regarding the co-main event on the card.
“UFC lightweight Khabib Nurmagomedov was transported to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Centre on Thursday evening due to weight management medical issues”, the statement read.
This is the third time a scheduled fight between Nurmagomedov and Ferguson, whose on a nine-fight winning streak, has been canceled.
After the weigh-ins at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, the 33-year-old showed up to address the fans as he spoke to Joe Rogan. Nurmagomedov has won all eight of his UFC bouts, but the Dagestan-born Russian missed two full years of competition before April 2016 due to a persistent knee injury.
Ferguson (22-3), meanwhile, has earned his spot the hard way.
“This is something worse than ‘El Cucuy.’ It’s just some (crappy) stuff you gotta go through”, Ferguson said.
“And I really want you guys to still buy this pay per view because the rest of this card is (expletive) awesome”.
Ferguson made championship weight on Friday morning, tipping the scale at 154.5 a little over 24 hours before his scheduled interim title fight on Saturday night.
One of the most anticipated fights of 2017 is off. “We were all looking forward to this fight very much”.
The replacement fighter that looks more likely though is Michael Johnson. However, speaking with UFC, Nurmagodemov said that he doesn’t think that the match is for the interim belt and that whoever wins the title fight will become the real champion.
