Daniela Vargas was taken into custody on Wednesday, according to attorneys Ramiro Orozco and Abby Peterson and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
With one month on the new job now under his belt, Homan said the juggling act between enforcing the law and building trust with the public has been nothing short of hard.
ICE enforcement actions under the Trump administration have stoked fears in immigrant communities after large numbers of coordinated arrests across the country in recent weeks.
“I don’t know if this is immigration showing us that DACA applicants are fair game until their DACA is approved”, Peterson said.
“We really don’t have a lot of heinous crime”, she said.
According to Morales, ICE agents then began questioning Guillen. Morales, who is eight months pregnant, was questioned but not detained.
Ms Peterson said detaining someone with a pending DACA application was “very unusual”. Her brother and father were arrested on February 15 after ICE agents came to their home, according to the station. She says she doesn’t understand why “they don’t want me”. “They’re not coming forward with what they’re doing”. “These three officers are not going to be out in the street looking for people”. For undocumented immigrants, it may seem hopeless to protect yourself in Trump’s America but it’s incredibly helpful and important to know your rights. United We Dream created a handy “Deportation Defense Card” in English, Spanish, Arabic, Chinese and Korean to remind you of those rights. “The ICE activities in the heart of the immigrant community on the east side is not happening in Ballentyne, Meyers Park or South End”.
“We stood vigil outside of the house for about five hours”, Chandler said. “She didn’t waive those rights, her parents waived those rights”.
Being a north country native, Homan said he is tuned in to what happens along the Canadian border.
