House Conservatives Balk at Emerging Obamacare Plan
Rep. Chris Collins, D-N.Y., who sits on the House Energy and Commerce Committee, which authored the drafted legislation, told the Washington Examiner that only Republicans will receive access to the bill.
“But Murphy floated on Friday that the reason Republicans are waiting to publicly release the bill is because they are anxious about backlash”.
A “new” Republican congressional plan to replace Obamacare, which was being kept secret from the public and even GOP senators, reportedly is considering barring wealthier people from receiving tax credits to help pay for their health insurance plans. He then held an imaginary conversation with the 16th president about what Hoyer said was the poor state of the Republican Party.
Aides in the room told the senator – before dozens of reporters in a crowded hallway – that there was no bill to see.
“The real question is: what are they hiding?”
In an email statement on Wednesday, Neal said the HHS report showed “what consumers would really face under Trumpcare”.
The bill is expected to be marked up next week.
However, according to the newly leaked revised draft, there would be a higher-end cutoff of the tax credits.
“Republicans are trying to destroy the health care reform law so that they never even have to pass a repeal bill”, Murphy said.
Republicans will retain many provisions of their 2015 reconciliation bill, vetoed by President Barack Obama.
But the lawmakers aren’t opposed to the notion of a tax credit as a whole. The bill is being worked on through the Energy and Commerce committee.
“It must be the plan they want, not the plan forced on them by our government”. Lawmakers often avoid sharing too many details of draft bills as they make final deals to gain support for their legislation.
Paul blasted committee members for keeping a plan to repeal and replace the health care law out of public viewing.
“It’s the secret office of the secret bill”, Paul told a gaggle of reporters. That’s the bill we’re working on with the Trump administration.
Gardner told Sengenberger House committee hearings would begin next week on a repeal-and-replace program.
While Democrats’ political theatrics attracted attention, rank-and-file Republicans are genuinely upset about feeling shut out of the process to write the health care legislation.
The GOP plan being developed would provide money for those states and for the 19 states – mostly run by Republicans – that didn’t expand Medicaid.
The revised draft is dated February 24, coming after another draft, dated February 10, that was leaked last week. That means benefits above that level would be taxed.
“The draft of it is going to be available tomorrow for those of us on the health subcommittee to start poring through”, said Representative Chris Collins of NY, a Trump ally and member of the health subcommittee of Energy and Commerce.
“The problem is what they’ve wanted to put forward is Obamacare light”.
