Titans, Eagles Talking Brandin Cooks Trade With Saints
Brandin Cooks is frustrated with his role in the New Orleans Saints offense and that discontent has sparked some trade rumors. He’s everything we were wanting when we drafted him. And so, how do we best utilize our resources to improve our defense and then fill spots that we’ve identified offensively? However, don’t expect a trade to happen until the league year begins on March 9th.
Such a trade would nearly seem too good to be true.
Over the last two seasons in the NFL, Cooks has 162 catches for 2311 yards and 17 TDs.
Payton continued by giving a slight non-answer about Cooks’ future in New Orleans.
“Closed mouths don’t get fed”, Cooks said after the game. Spotrac gives him a .2 million average annual salary for his next contract via the calculated value.
So far two 1 round picks (#18 and #32) appear to have already been turned down for Cooks.
At least five teams have made inquiries for the 23-year-old receiver.
Could Florida State’s Dalvin Cook be answer to Eagles’ RB woes?
He’s fast, and quick, with the ability to take the top off the defense on long pass plays, and the ability to run after the catch for big gains on short pass plays. Since 2014, Cooks has 11 touchdown receptions of over 30 yards. Floyd is a former 1,000-yard receiver looking for a rebound year. The Tennessee Titans & Philadelphia Eagles are interested, but are they willing to pay the price? He also is due for another contract after this season, either the fifth-year option or a brand new deal, both will require high-end money.
Make no mistake about it, Cooks is the type of receiver the Eagles are desiring. The Eagles and Titans, however, are slotted to pick 14th and 18th, respectively. After the draft, then-coach Chip Kelly confirmed that Cooks was on the Eagles’ radar, despite his relatively small stature. “He’s also a rocked-up 190 some-odd pounds and a physical player”.
Since the season has ended, the Eagles have been linked to any number of playmakers, whether it’s for a reunion (DeSean Jackson, LeSean McCoy, Jeremy Maclin) or something brand new (Alshon Jeffery, Kenny Stills). Yes, that was with Drew Brees, but Cooks fits the west-coast offense mold. You get Brandin Cooks who is 5-foot-10, you need size on the other side. “They all come in different shapes and sizes”. Millions that they can use to fill other needs and build a powerhouse in the NFC. I don’t think that drastically lowers what it might cost to land, but it would remove a significant piece of competition for the free agent.
