‘Obama never ordered surveillance on any United States citizen’ | Spokesman replies Trump
A spokesperson for former President Barack Obama responded to President Donald Trump’s stunning allegations on Saturday that the Obama administration wiretapped him, calling the unverified claim “simply false”.
The response from both Democrats and Republicans to Trump’s accusation was immediate and uniformly negative, with most demanding that Trump provide some evidence supporting his tweeted allegations.
Lewis, called “any suggestion” that Obama or any White House official ordered surveillance against Trump “simply false”.
Trump then said he “just found out” that Obama wiretapped Trump Tower prior to the election.
“Just out: The same Russian Ambassador that met Jeff Sessions visited the Obama White House 22 times, and 4 times a year ago alone”, Trump tweeted. Attorney General Jeff Sessions is now under attack for failing to mention his meetings with the Russian ambassador during his confirmation hearing.
And just after the flurry of Tweets accusing Obama of wire-tapping, the US President turned his attention to a reality TV show that he used to host. “Nothing found. This is McCarthyism”, Trump wrote in one tweet Saturday. Rather than Russian Federation, we’re talking about, did President Obama do thus and so?
In a Saturday tweet, Mr. Trump said, “Terrible!”
So where did the President get his information about wiretapping claims?
Speaking on CNN, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi characterized Trump’s claims of wiretapping as “ridiculous”, adding that it was another example of how the president is a “deflector in chief”.
Kevin Lewis, an Obama spokesman, strongly denied that the former president issued orders regarding the surveillance of Trump Tower.
“I can deny it”, Clapper said after being asked repeatedly whether he could confirm or deny Trump’s accusation.
Mr Trump’s administration has come under pressure from the Federal Bureau of Investigation and congressional investigations into contacts between some members of his campaign team and Russian officials during the campaign period.
