Is Google Working On A Non-Pixel Budget Smartphone?
The main highlight of last year’s Pixel phones was the marvelous camera, dedicated Google Assistant AI, and the purest Android Nougat experience. In the interaction with PCMag India, Osterloh highlighted the importance of user experience and said that Google would go to any length to develop components, which would offer its Pixel smartphones an edge in terms of user experience.
Osterloh confirmed that there would be a new Pixel phone this year, but he didn’t clarify exactly when it would be released.
The above however tallies well with the worldwide trend as both the Galaxy S8 and iPhone 8 are expected to see a hike in their prices. The major plus that Google received is the remarkable camera performance with its Pixel smartphones.
Google Pixel 2 is a sequel to the original Pixel smartphone that was announced earlier in 2016.
Google’s new hardware lead Rick Osterloh revealed some new details about company’s flagship smartphone Pixel’s successor. “So, you can count on us to follow it”, Osterloh commented.
It is expected that Google Pixel 2 will also be released during October this year keeping in line with its predecessor. Which means if a 12-month release cycle is to be adhered to we should expect the Google Pixel 2 in the same month.
Osterloh’s clarification just made everyone sigh in relief, and by his statement, it seems that Google is now preparing something big about the lineup of Chromebook.
The Google Pixel smartphones also come with the Pixel launcher, which is exclusive to Pixel smartphones and brings with it an all new app launcher and rounded app icons.
As for production problems, it appears that Google has some bottlenecks related to components for the current Pixel and Pixel XL. Thus, while the device is largely popular, its success has been limited due to Google’s inability to produce enough handsets for consumers. The Pixel 2 variant would sport a 4k 5.7-inch display. You could perhaps say that the device in question will be an “Android One” smartphone developed in-house by Google. It could have a price tag of US$899 (AU$1,190 approx). We already see that the name change has happened as the texting app is now Android Messages if you look for it in Google Play Store. According to Forbes, Google should slim down the huge top and bottom bezels.
