Happ named first team all-Big Ten

After a much-needed and impressive win on Sunday over the Minnesota Golden Gophers, the Wisconsin Badgers earned the No. 2 overall seed in the upcoming Big Ten Tournament, which is set to begin on Wednesday in Washington D.C. Michigan State moments earlier had drawn within 66-60 on Branndais Agee’s 3-pointer, her third of the quarter.

The full second team: Michigan State’s Miles Bridges, Illinois’ Malcolm Hill, Northwestern’s Bryan McIntosh, Michigan’s Derrick Walton Jr. and Koenig (coaches) and Nebraska’s Tai Webster (media).

“Definitely”, Palm said when asked if Michigan State should be nervous in that scenario. They’ll open play in the tournament against Penn State. Michigan State, one of their problems is they haven’t been all that great away from home.

The bottom four teams in the conference will get things started on Wednesday, with the two winners going on to join the next six teams. Mathias routinely guards the opponent’s best perimeter player, locking up high scorers such as Louisville’s Donovan Mitchell (whom Mathias held to eight points on 3-of-9 shooting), Notre Dame’s Steve Vasturia (three points on 1-for-8), and Northwestern’s Vic Law (a total of five points on 2-for-20 shooting in the two meetings).

– Indiana: Wisconsin had no problem with the Hoosiers this year, sweeping the season series 2-0.

With its resume and recent string of good play, MI basketball should be safely in the NCAA tournament, regardless of what happens at the Big Ten tournament. To do that the Wolverines would likely have to go through Purdue.

Ohio State earned the 11 seed, which means they’ll need to play in the tournament’s opening game.

Edwards and Purdue will play again Friday in the Big Ten tournament quarterfinals.
