According to Nintendo, the Switch outsold the Wii’s launch in two days
Speaking to New York Times reporter Nick Wingfield, Fils-Aimé said the Switch “exceeded first 2-day sales in Americas for any system in Nintendo history”.
Thousands of owners of Nintendo’s new console, Switch, have complained about dead or stuck pixels creating distracting and annoying dark squares on their screens. It’s a pretty clever way for Nintendo to get their handheld and home games all on one platform – the usual for a company that’s always done things a little differently.
Proper sales data will officially be made available when the company reports full-year financial results, which are expected towards the end of April.
It’s hard to imagine a Nintendo console to have a more sucessful launch than the Nintendo Wii did back in 2006. That’s double the launch of Wii U but behind Xbox One, which sold 150,000 units during its debut weekend and 250,000 for PS4.
Also common, sadly, is Nintendo’s decision to state the issue should not require a refund.
Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime has revealed that the Nintendo Switch has sold faster than any other Nintendo system in the Americas, which is pretty good news if you’re a Nintendo fan.
When compared to other Nintendo systems, the Switch outsold the Wii U, but it was more almost 70,000 units behind the Wii. It’s doubly impressive when Nintendo’s history of selling huge amounts of machines is taken into account.
Hopefully Nintendo can create a better revision of their Switch hardware so that they are less prone to hardware failure.
At this point, in the United Kingdom, there are very few options for those looking to pick up a Switch, with most retailers sold out.
The lack of Pro Controllers is not surprising, since pre-orders were hard to come by months before the Switch’s launch.
