Authorities say that Thompson is not responsible for the majority of the threats made against Jewish institutions nationwide.
Staff and students shuffled out of the David Posnack Jewish Day School Tuesday morning after the second bomb threat within eight days.
“This could be coming from a singular individual or a group, with specific language”, said NYPD Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce.
At least 300 people were evacuated from the site in early January after someone phoned in a bomb threat and warned of the destruction of Jewish souls; a total of 16 JCCs were targeted on that same day. None of these threats have been carried out to date.
“I don’t think there’s anything we take more seriously than hate crimes”, said O’Neill.
Bender, the largest of the D.C. area’s three Jewish community centers, has been among the targets before.
Lynch said despite the threats, members have not let it stop them from using the facility as normal.
Last week, police made an arrest in connection with a bomb threat made at the Manhattan ADL office on February 22.
In response to an email seeking more information on the Atlanta bomb threat, Todd Gutnick, a spokesman for the league, said it is “not commenting on the specifics of the threat” because of safety concerns.
A Brighton JCC employee received a threat around 6 a.m. Tuesday in their company email account, forcing staff members to evacuate the building with almost 80 patrons inside. Oddly, the ADL – which was one of the victims of Thompson’s bomb threats – also failed to even mention Thompson’s radical Islamist and far left-wing affiliations and anti-Israel pro-Palestinian-Arab beliefs, in ADL’s post about Thompson’s arrest.
Governor Andrew Cuomo announced Tuesday that the state police will coordinate with federal and local law enforcement and launch an investigation into the Anti-Defamation League bomb threat and two others directed against Jewish community centers upstate.
