Cowboys To Release Tony Romo On Thursday
According to Around the National Football League, the Dallas Cowboys informed their longtime quarterback Tony Romo that he will be released from the team on Thursday. Those are two teams who appeared to be a quarterback away from Super Bowl contention in 2016. That could lead them to release Jay Cutler, throwing another former starter into free agency and taking the Bears out of the picture. He began his career with Dallas in 2003 as an undrafted unknown from Eastern Illinois.
ESPN reported Wednesday that the Dallas Cowboys will release quarterback Tony Romo.
Tony Romo remains a member of the Cowboys, but it looks like the team is already preparing for the post-Romo era.
The Broncos went 9-7 last season after a 4-0 start and finished third in the AFC West, missing the playoffs for the first time since 2010.
ESPN’s Todd Archer and Adam Schefter were first to report the team’s decision to cut Romo loose after 13 seasons, citing a source familiar with the move.
McCown, 37, spent the past two seasons with the Cleveland Browns, compiling a 1-12 record in games he played.
According to Jason La Canfora of CBSSports.com, “there is a very strong likelihood that barring a trade off, the Cowboys [will] release Tony Romo tomorrow”.
