Instagram Stories now feature Snapchat-like geostickers
However, there are certain features missing from Instagram Stories that Snapchat has been offering for a long time.
While the new feature seems interesting, currently, it is being rolled out only in NY and Jakarta. The new stickers also act as a point of location reference, allowing users to tap on them and be taken to the location page to see more photos which were also taken within the same area.
Today, Instagram unveiled that Geostickers will be making their way to the Stories section of the application. Geostickers are the latest feature that the photo-sharing app has copied from rival Snapchat. Of course, your Story remains only visible to your followers. When people see your story, they’ll be able to tap the sticker and view the page for that location. Additional stickers may appear as you near different neighborhoods or landmarks.
Instagram’s stickers now only work in New York City and Jakarta, but if this does well they’ll likely keep launching new locations and partnerships. It’s the proverbial David versus Goliath of social media, and it will be interesting to see how this all plays out.
Earlier this month, Instagram announced it will make available immersive, full-screen ads in its Stories feature for all businesses globally. However, they need to adjust the sizing and the placement to fit the frame of the photo or video. According to Instagram, “each one is created to match the vibe of the location it represents”.
Snapchat first introduced geostickers last August. As you can imagine, this is a collection of stickers that you can place in your snapshot to decorate it and are available for two cities, at least for now.
Snapchat has offered geostickers for a while.
