United States senators calls on White House to address JCC bomb threats
“Even before this incident, as the wave of threats started around the country against Jewish organizations and people, myself and LMPD were in contact with our Jewish community to offer support”.
A Jewish Community Center in MA was evacuated after a bomb threat was found written on the wall of the men’s locker room.
Tuesday’s threat was specifically called into the center’s day school where students are taught through 8th grade. “All communities and entities targeted by intimidation and fear deserve access to all of the tools needed to ensure these criminals are brought to justice”, Schumer said in a statement.
Betzy Lynch, Executive Director of the Levite Jewish Community Center, said she does not feel the person or group making these threats was even aware of that meeting Monday night.
In Florida, police also swept David Posnack Jewish Day School for bombs after the centre received a similar threat. “Portland Police officers have regularly been providing extra patrol to the community center and other facilities after reports of threats occurring across the United States”. A threat – its second was called in to the JCC of Rochester.
“We have not seen anything like this in many years; this level of hatred directed against the Jewish community, this many threats”. We are executing our emergency.
We will update this story if/when more information comes in.
The center previously received two bomb threats in January.
Last week, federal authorities arrested a former journalist, Juan Thompson, charging him with using fake email accounts to make bomb threats against Jewish organizations, including the Anti-Defamation League.
Trump, who has come under fire for delayed responses to the threats, noted them during his address to a joint session of Congress last week.
In Washington, a letter signed by all 100 U.S. senators on Tuesday urged the Trump administration to immediately respond to the anonymous bomb threats made against Jewish community centers, Jewish day schools, and synagogues across the nation.
“Our Jewish Community Center stands for inclusiveness, diversity and community. Isn’t it time to do something to protect them?”
