Nintendo’s hybrid portable/living room console is an odd beast indeed, significantly buoyed by the peerless Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild but still needing to stand on its own two feet. Once the console finally made it into reviewers’ hands, it was discovered that the Nintendo Switch’s Joy-Con controllers also worked with PCs and smartphones as a standard Bluetooth gamepad. The console is a miniature version of the Nintendo Entertainment System, released in the ’80s. Most potential buyers are already used to playing games on smartphones and TVs, and that has fueled skepticism over whether Nintendo will find a market for a combined experience.
