House intel committee will probe Trump’s wiretap accusation against Obama
Trump has asked the panels to also investigate leaks and even suggested earlier this week that former President Barack Obama ordered wiretaps of his office at Trump Tower. There is ample evidence that the Obama administration did similar things to private citizens.

On the other hand, if Mr Trump, an inveterate conspiracy theorist, was peddling inflammatory nonsense about his predecessor and America’s intelligence agencies, that would also be serious. “But if we have to, we will subpoena all information that is pertinent to this investigation if people either. don’t want to appear or if the appropriate agencies do not provide the information we ask for”.
The committee, along with its counterpart in the Senate, is investigating Russian efforts to influence US presidential election. Half of independents disapprove of Trump’s job performance, up from 47% last month, as do one in 10 Republicans (up from 6%).
Voters trust the media more than Trump 53 – 37 percent “to tell you the truth about important issues”.
But faced with an aggressive grilling from reporters during his first on-camera briefing in more than a week, Spicer was unable to offer any evidence or source of Trump’s accusation.
