Omaha insurance expert examines “Obamacare Lite”
Paul Nehlen of rural Delavan issued a news release Wednesday criticizing Ryan on a number of points, mostly for the just-released House plan to replace the Affordable Care Act, known as Obamacare.
“This is the choice we face”.
Paul Ryan’s interview with Tucker Carlson takes a discomfiting turn.
Democrats blasted the proposed legislation as being a watered down version of former President Obama’s signature health care law.
Responding to President Trump’s tweet in which Trump said he and Paul agree on ObamaCare repeal and can find common ground on replacement, Paul said he agreed.
Ryan further stated that “We’re finding that some” members of Congress don’t understand what a reconciliation bill is.
His administration has asked Republican President Donald Trump’s administration to greenlight such ideas in Maine.
“We had the wisdom to listen and now this week we’ll have the courage to lead”, he said. “We laid out our major concerns about the lack of free-market reforms in this bill, the continuation of the Medicaid expansion, and the refundable tax credits”, Mr. McIntosh said.
He sympathized with those colleagues who were demanding more bold action, but said “unfortunately the Senate rules don’t’ allow us to do that”.
Rep. Justin Amash of MI complained, “The leadership message is take it or leave it”. If he were, say, a “legendary wonk”, he would’ve written a less absurd piece of legislation.
Legislative prospects would look somewhat better for TrumpCare if it were only centrist Republicans on the fence, but conservative groups are coming out in opposition too, such the Heritage Foundation and the Club for Growth.
In the words of health-care expert Avik Roy, the “House GOP’s ObamaCare replacement will make coverage unaffordable for millions”.
First of all, I would like to walk you through exactly what the American Health Care Act is. The organization, which has almost 38 million members, was pivotal to the passage of Obama’s law in 2010.
Ryan countered Republicans are “producing a lot” and numerous House’s bills already are backed up in the Senate because Democrats are slowing things down with procedural techniques to keep Trump’s nominees from being confirmed in a timely manner.
Conservative criticism of this bill stems from problems with its structure and sequencing of reforms. The Freedom Caucus definitely doesn’t like the GOP leadership bill, and apparently they’re not going to like any bill that helps Americans with health insurance in any way. “That message is, relief is on the way”. In all seriousness though, Ryan has a tough road ahead of him trying to get people on board with the American Health Care Act. He also said the plan “slashes Medicaid funding to pay for tax cuts that benefit the rich”. And unfortunately, that’s what the American Health Care Act does.
By the way, the Brookings Institution estimated today that up to 15 million people could lose coverage under the GOP bill over 10 years thanks to the repeal of the individual mandate. Those payments would phase out for higher-earning people.
