Planned Parenthood Says No to Trump’s Offer
“This is what we’ve been dreaming about doing”, the House Speaker told reporters.
Our response is short and simple: No way.
Among the many issues participants in the International Women’s Day strike are concerned about is the availability of women’s health services, including abortion services.
Heavy patient loads are common at these clinics, says Sara Rosenbaum, a health policy professor at George Washington University.
The report used a simulation model developed by the Brookings Institution to see what would happen if all the women in the US had access to the full spectrum of birth control options.
“If the abortion funding restrictions for health care credits and state funds in this new bill fails in the Senate, then these provisions will subsidize abortion”, the FRC continued. If that was the case, they could get rid of the supposed three percent of their business that deals with abortions and use those resources to expand other offerings, including services they already claim to do but don’t actually provide at all. No federal funding goes toward abortion, according to the organization. In fact, the Congressional Budget Office has estimated that defunding Planned Parenthood would cost taxpayers $130 million over 10 years.
This would cause a national health disaster. In Southern Arizona these facilities provide care to almost 160,000 people, significantly more than Planned Parenthood.
“One in five women in the US have visited a Planned Parenthood clinic”, Werner declared before playing a clip from one of the organization’s ads. Charles Schumer, a Democrat from NY and a steady ally of abortion, repeated the false claim that PP provides mammograms. As Vox pointed out, that would hit poor women the hardest but impact anyone that relies on Planned Parenthood’s services if clinics are forced to close as a result.
Susan Yolen, vice president of public policy and advocacy for Planned Parenthood of Southern New England, said the agency’s services end up saving money in the long run, and that increased access to contraception made available through the Affordable Care Act had led to a decline in the teen birth rate and a reduction in abortions in CT.
Make no mistake, this is a clear indication of his disrespect of and lack of concern for the health of women and for those families suffering the devastating effects of addiction and mental illness.
The study demonstrates, clearly, that making it easy and cost-effective for a low-income woman to get an IUD right after she gets an abortion means she’s much more likely to access effective birth control ― and that she’s less likely to get pregnant soon after. And 9 percent is used for cancer screenings.
Weakening or destroying Planned Parenthood has been high on the GOP agenda for years, and with the party in control of the White House and both houses of Congress, the threat is real. That’s why they proposed this ridiculous exchange. It did not take long for Planned Parenthood to unambiguously reject this offer.
Trump continued, “Polling shows the majority of Americans oppose public funding for abortion, even those who identify as pro-choice”.
Planned Parenthood’s motto is “Care, No Matter What”, but Trevino and Thayer contend that was certainly not the reality. Our founder and her colleagues went to jail defending that idea.
